Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James A. Robinson have won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics for their work on understanding differences in prosperity between nations. The researchers, all three of whom work in the United States, notably analyzed the role of institutions in the wealth of a country, based on the systems put in place after the colonization of different parts of the world by Europeans in the 16th century. .
