2024 municipal elections in Mons: Georges-Louis Bouchez calls on Nicolas Martin to “put his ego aside” and form a coalition

Nicolas Martin won the battle against his main competitor Georges-Louis Bouchez. The socialist list obtains 44.64%, or 22 seats out of the 45 on the municipal council (-1 compared to 2018), one seat short of an absolute majority. The Mons en Mieux list of the president of the MR garners 28.72% and 14 seats (+ 3).

Before the vote, Nicolas Martin had ruled out an alliance with the MR Mons en Mieux list. “I wish him courage if he were to have a majority of one seat. If that helps to relax relations, I undertake not to be in the college,” proposed Mr. Bouchez on the airwaves of La Premiere (RTBF).

Yesterday evening, just after learning the results, Nicolas Martin nevertheless affirmed that he did not consider wanting to work with Georges-Louis Bouchez. “I will obviously avoid, as I indicated during the electoral campaign, associating myself with my opponent who embodies the opposite of everything I am, both in terms of values and the way of being, in relation to others, but also on the level of ideas It seems complicated to combine water and fire. When you do it, there is nothing left. So you have to try to work with people. people who share the same vision of the development of the city and above all the same approach to interpersonal relationships which must be based on respect and not on contempt.”

After a campaign which left its mark on Mons soil, it is in any case difficult to see how these two could have gotten along, especially since in the middle of the night, the Engaged seemed willing to discuss with the list of the mayor to climb on board a future majority.
