Turkish security forces recently carried out operations leading to the neutralization of four terrorists in northern Iraq and Syria. This information was communicated by the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

In northern Iraq, two terrorists were targeted in the area of operation dubbed Lockclaw. At the same time, two other individuals were neutralized in the Euphrates Shield operation zone, located in northern Syria.

According to Turkish authorities, members of the PKK, a group designated as terrorist by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, often use the northern region of Iraq to orchestrate cross-border attacks against Türkiye.

Turkey has initiated several counter-terrorism operations since 2016 to counter any formation of a terrorist corridor on its borders. Operation Euphrates Shield, launched in 2016, was followed by Olive Branch in 2018 and Spring of Peace in 2019.

The PKK, during its more than three decades of violence against Türkiye, caused the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women and children. In Syria, the PKK is represented by the YPG group, its Syrian branch.
