US Secretary of State Blinken held telephone conversations with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdul Ati, on Tuesday, discussing the latest developments in the Middle East. During the meeting, Blinken expressed gratitude to Egypt for its continued efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza. These efforts also include steps to free Israeli prisoners. Egypt’s role in resolving the conflict in Sudan was also highlighted, according to the US State Department statement.

Blinken stressed the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This would allow Israeli and Lebanese civilians to return to safety at home. Additionally, he reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to providing approximately $157 million in humanitarian assistance to Lebanon. This support also includes continued assistance to the Lebanese armed forces and state institutions.

The two diplomats also reviewed recent developments in the Middle East, continuing a dialogue already initiated during the US-Egypt strategic dialogue held in Cairo last September.
