Morges: Taxation will not fall despite pressure from the Greens

The municipal councilors were to decide last Wednesday on the tax decree for the year 2025. The text submitted to the deliberative body recommended maintaining the status quo, i.e. leaving the municipal tax coefficient at 67%. .

The Municipality’s position was followed by a narrow majority of the Council. Only 41 councilors accepted it, against 29 “no” and 14 abstentions, which means that the Executive certainly won, but with a very modest score on such a subject.

It must be said that the debates were marked by strong opposition from the Greens, by the rant-like voice of Sylvie Faÿ who announced the group’s refusal to support the decree. “When everyone agrees that it is a disaster for the most modest Morgien households and that we must act, then it is good to remember that tax – calculated on the basis of income – is the the fairest lever to ask the wealthiest Morgian households to show solidarity with those who have no other choice than to unsubscribe their children from their favorite sports club to continue to make them eat properly,” declared the elected official .

The PS does not drive the point home

The socialist Nicolas Heredia agreed by announcing that he would refuse, personally, to vote in favor of the text. “Maintaining benefits [par la Municipalité] does not compensate for the lack of municipal vision and the contextual issues which are gradually materializing.”

The Socialist Party and Independents of the Left group nevertheless mostly abstained.
