The third edition of the ‘Steréo Africa Festival’ will open this Wednesday in Dakar and will continue until May 12. This major event aims to highlight various musical genres, especially those from West Africa, according to information provided by the organizers to the APS.

During a press conference at the Douta Seck Culture House, Sahad Sarr, singer and guitarist, and one of the pioneers of the ‘Steréo Africa’ label, expressed the ambitious goals of the festival. ‘Our goal is not only to expand the reach of alternative music, but also to increase the visibility of local artists and consolidate the structure of this festival,’ he explained.

With a focus on inclusiveness, the festival also introduces initiatives such as the ‘Women art academy’ to train and support women in music professions. In addition, the program promises a captivating bill with famous names from the Senegalese and African music scene, including Omar Pène and Alune Wade.

Diverse activities such as competitions for young talents, showcases and round tables on cultural issues will enrich the event. With several sites in Dakar hosting the festivities this year, organizers anticipate a wider participation than in previous editions.
