The police were deployed this morning on Kildare Street, in Ste-Brigitte-de-, for a man in crisis. The operation which began around 10 a.m. this morning ended a little before 9 p.m. this evening.

Following certain checks and taking into account that there was a possibility that there was a weapon present on site, the police established a perimeter around the premises as a preventive measure and certain residences were evacuated, indicated the door -speaker of the Sûreté du Québec.

As a preventative measure, children from a daycare located in the same area were kept indoors. A police officer remained on site to secure the staff and children. Around 5:30 p.m., all the children were picked up by their parents.

According to police information, a gunshot was heard before the police arrived.

Several police officers were mobilized to secure the area, but also to try to make contact with the man in crisis. The SQ command post was necessary. The SQ Tactical Intervention Group (GTI) was deployed, but also the Quebec GTI which was requested for reinforcement. Yes, it happens, the GTIs can intervene together for different operational reasons.

According to the SQ, several steps were taken by the police to request the man’s surrender, but it was only around 9 p.m., partly thanks to the mobilization of the tactical intervention group, that the individual was able to be taken care of. No one was injured during the event. The individual, aged in his thirties, will receive the necessary care and will be met by investigators when his condition allows it, indicated the Sûreté du Québec.
