More than a day and a half after the start of drinking water pollution in Geneva, the evolution of the situation is reassuring, the Geneva industrial services (SIG) communicated this Monday afternoon. The health impact is low, indicates the cantonal doctor, no increase in admissions to hospitals has been noted. Furthermore, analyzes of water quality are currently reassuring. All physicochemical parameters are compliant as well as the result of the first bacteriological analysis. The next results will be known on Tuesday.
If the results of these analyzes also prove to be compliant, lifting the system would be considered. On Monday morning, the distribution of drinking water continued. Bottles of water were delivered in particular to nurseries and nursing homes. In addition, new drinking water supply points have been installed, in the form of taps connected to hydrants and mobile cisterns. This system will be in place until things return to normal.
Three municipalities are entirely affected and the water is unfit throughout their territory. These are the municipalities of Anières, Corsier and Hermance. Ten other municipalities are only partially, or even very partially, affected. These are the municipalities of Chêne-Bougeries, Chêne-Bourg, Choulex, Collonge-Bellerive, Cologny, Meinier, Puplinge, Thônex, Vandoeuvres as well as a sector of Eaux-Vives in the City of Geneva. Schools remain open. Students were asked to come to school with a large bottle of water. For Tuesday, the same will be done if the situation persists, which parents can check on the SIG website. Regarding school restaurants, all measures have been taken to ensure meals, as well as for extracurricular activities.
