A person was found dead in the rubble after the fire which completely destroyed a commercial building in Vionnaz (VS) during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. The identification of the victim is in progress, announced the cantonal police on Thursday.
The building, located between the Vionnaz exit and the Muraz entrance, housed an Asian restaurant, a hairdressing salon and an equipment sales business, Valais police spokesperson Gaëtan Lathion told Keystone-ATS .
The disaster broke out shortly after 3:30 a.m., and the building was destroyed despite “the rapid intervention of firefighters”. The investigation was underway Thursday to formally identify the victim and determine the reason for his presence at the scene.
The security work has been completed, and the police are able to rule out the possibility of other victims, the spokesperson added. Concerning the cause of the disaster, no leads had been ruled out Thursday morning.
