Matt, 1er May (APS) – Workers affiliated with the Coalition of Central Trade Unions of Senegal submitted, on Wednesday, their list of grievances to the prefect of Matam on the occasion of International Labor Day, noting that their concerns essentially revolve around the questions mining and land, education, health and local authorities.

The list of grievances was handed over to the head of the departmental executive, Souleymane Ndiaye, at the end of a procession which started at the CDEPS in Matam and ended in front of the prefecture.

The marchers are made up in particular of workers whose unions are affiliated with the Coalition of Central Trade Unions of Senegal, bringing together the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS), the National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Senegal (UNSAS) and the Confederation of autonomous unions (CSA).

Workers affiliated with the Democratic Union of Workers of Senegal (UDTS) and the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal/Force du Changement (CNTS/FC) also took part in the meeting.

“Regarding health, we noted that the Matam Regional Hospital, the Ourossogui Regional Hospital Center, the Agnam Hospital and the Matam District are facing enormous difficulties. We want them to be treated well, through regional meetings,” said the Secretary General of the Regional Union of the National Confederation of Workers of Senegal (CNTS), Mamadou Demba Sy.

Referring to the issue of local authority workers, the trade unionist denounced what he called “overexploitation of agents”, deploring at the same time the refusal of mayors to increase salaries, in accordance with a law passed in Senegal since 2022.

Referring to the situation of those affected by phosphate mining in the department of Kanel, the secretary general of the CNTS informs that “the populations of Ndendory, Hounaré and Orkadiéré are experiencing an enormous ordeal (…) with a scam that does not tell its own story. name, in particular on the amount of compensation set at 90,000 CFA francs per field owner”

Before the administrative authority, Mamadou Demba Sy also focused on the situation of recently retired teachers, including “decision makers who received derisory sums for their pension”.

“We ask that the State can restore this disparity with definitive harmonization of salary treatment, a guarantee of social stability in the country,” he insisted.
