The first Lake Geneva derby of the season remains in Geneva. On Saturday, at La Praille, Servette beat Lausanne-Sport 1-0, in a match that the Grenat always or almost dominated. Derek Kutesa was the only scorer.

Following on from last season, when Lausanne-Sport only took one point from the three Lake Geneva derbies, Servette demonstrated its superiority. The same one attributed to him before the match by Ludovic Magnin. The outsider portrayed by the Vaudois technician never seemed able to shake the Geneva favorite.

No doubt the still damaged lawn of Praille was not of much help for good quality sequences. Except that physically also Servette demonstrated to be stronger in this derby held in a relatively quiet atmosphere (12,185 spectators). The duels, the races, the rebounds only highlighted these Garnets (and very often a still very active Timothé Cognat) who temporarily took over the lead in the championship, while waiting for Zurich, Lucerne and Lugano to play on Sunday.

Symbol of this athletic domination: the Servettian opening score. Although much smaller than Karim Sow who had him marking Von Moos’ corner, Alexis Antunes managed to deflect the ball with his head, allowing Dereck Kutesa to score his fifth goal of the season (32nd).

LS should perhaps have equalized on Geneva’s only real approximation of the first period, in the 42nd minute, when Yoan Séverin missed his intervention, allowing Alban Ajdini to go alone on goal. The strike from the Genevan from LS was well stopped by Jérémy Frick.

This could have served as a detonator for Lausanne, but it is clear that they were well behind after the break, unable to create any danger, except for a situation for Alvyn Sanches following a free kick (52nd). However, at the heart of the second half, Servette showed some signs of panic, with an inability to keep the ball. Without cracking. On the contrary, it was even the Genevans who were close to increasing the score, but Karim Sow deflected an attempt from Kutesa onto his own bar (74th).

Around the Lake, whether Geneva or Lake Geneva depending on each person’s appellations, Servette always dominates.
