The trial which opened this Monday, April 29 in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, is one of the most important ever conducted in Germany in terms of terrorism. Twenty-six people appear in court, suspected of having participated in or supported a terrorist organization aiming, according to the attorney general, to “eliminate state order in Germany through the use of weapons”. Affiliated with the Reich Citizens who do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany, these 26 people were arrested in December 2022 during a large police operation across 11 regions of the country.

From the summer of 2021, they would have planned an armed attack against the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament in Berlin, then a seizure of political power, with Prince Henry XIII of Reuss at the head of state. Unknown to the general public before his arrest, this 71-year-old entrepreneur, member of the Thuringian nobility, is one of the leaders of this terrorist network, along with three former Bundeswehr officers. Yesterday, in Stuttgart, however, no trace of these men. And for good reason: due to the scale of the file, the procedure was divided into three parts. This Monday, nine members of the “military arm” opened this massive trial. The political arm, with the thinking heads, will be judged in a parallel procedure, from May 21, before a third trial in June in Munich. Verdicts are not expected until next year.
