17 people have died since December in the Indian region of Kashmir.
Their death was due to a mysterious illness, which the authorities were trying to diagnose.
These are deaths which currently have no formally identified cause. At least 17 people have died in a month in Kashmir, a region in northwest India, after contracting a mysterious illness that allegedly damaged their nervous and brain systems. To try to find out more, health authorities have opened an investigation into these deaths, including 13 children, which occurred in the village of Badhaal. All the victims are said to come from three different families.
Toxins in the samples
Since December, a total of 38 people have been infected, according to the Times of India. Symptoms reported include fever, nausea, pain, and loss of consciousness. As part of this investigation, the National Center for Disease Control carried out analyzes and excluded the presence of viruses or bacteria but certified the presence of toxins, according to the newspaper.
For his part, the Minister of Health confirmed that according to preliminary results, the victims were not dead. “from an infection, a virus or a bacteria but rather from a toxin”. Jitendra Singh added do not rule out “the hypothesis of an error or malice”. If the establishment of a state of emergency is ruled out for the time being, the investigation must continue under the aegis of the Ministry of the Interior.
