Jay Weinberg, now drummer for Suicidal Tendencies, surprised fans during his drum clinic at Bag’Show in Paris, on October 27, 2024, playing for the first time since his departure from Slipknot two pieces from We Are Not Your Kind (2019) : Spiders et Solway Firth. The performance marked a symbolic moment for Weinberg, who left Slipknot in November 2023 after a decade with the group.

In a statement accompanying images of the clinic posted online, Weinberg expressed gratitude for the unique opportunity: “Five years after my last solo performance as part of a clinic, this invitation to play at the prestigious Bag’Show was an opportunity to revisit significant pieces of my career, some that I had never played live previously. Thank you to La Baguetterie for this experience which means so much to me.”

An unexpected and significant separation with Slipknot

Jay Weinberg’s departure from Slipknot in 2023 was announced as a “creative decision” by the group, with no apparent animosity, as Shawn Crahan, aka Clown, explained during an interview in 2024: “There were never any bad intentions. It was simply an artistic decision. We went our own way, and there are no hard feelings.”

However, Weinberg had described his departure as a moment “devastating” et “unpredictable”claiming to have been “caught off guard” by this decision. He has since begun a process of reflection and therapy to deal with this difficult transition, stating: “After ten years of being focused exclusively on one thing, it takes time to digest it all and contextualize that experience into a broader view of life.”

A new step with Suicidal Tendencies

Since leaving Slipknot, Jay Weinberg has joined Suicidal Tendencies, bringing his energy and creativity to the legendary thrash crossover group. He also played with Infectious Grooves, another project formed by Mike Muir (singer of Suicidal Tendencies) and Robert Trujillo of Metallica. During the Paris clinic, in addition to Slipknot songs, Weinberg performed songs from Suicidal Tendencies, Kvelertak, and even a Bruce Springsteen song, paying tribute to his father, Max Weinberg, longtime drummer of the E Street Band .
