Rapper Stormzy is deprived of his driving license for 9 months, after being sentenced Thursday by British courts for making a phone call while driving his Rolls-Royce in London in March 2024.
The judge accused the 31-year-old rapper of “dangerous and irresponsible” conduct, before announcing the suspension of his license and a fine of 2,010 pounds sterling (2,423 euros).
Stormzy, real name Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, was arrested on March 7 in broad daylight in the upscale Kensington district. An undercover officer knocked on his tinted window and told him: “Get rid of the tinted windows and put down your phone,” London's Westminster Magistrates' Court was told.
The British rapper, who pleaded guilty, was not present at the hearing.
Stormzy was also arrested on October 17, 2023, this time driving a Lamborghini Urus, whose tinted front windows only let in 4% of light, far from the required 70%. He had already received warnings about this.
The rapper is aware of his responsibility and apologizes, said his lawyer, Peter Csemiczky.
Stormzy also removed his tinted windows, he said.
