Therapeutic patient education in Île-de-: a new version of CART’EP is available
Therapeutic patient education in Île-de-France: a new version of CART’EP is available

The Île-de- Regional Health Agency, in conjunction with the public interest group (GIP) Sesan and its partners, makes available to promoters, whether hospital or primary care, as well as patients, a new version of CART’EP with the aim of:

  • to identify a local therapeutic patient education program (ETP)* for professionals and patients;
  • to be able to connect with a care team and discuss the experience of illness during workshops, particularly with patient experts or partners;
  • To have resources and news relating to ETP, in particular through the publication of scientific articles.

Access the CART’EP platform

In 2009, the Agency commissioned the Health Education and Practices Laboratory of the University of 13, today the Education and Health Promotion Laboratory (LEPS) at the Sorbonne Paris University, to create CART’EP: CARTography therapeutic education programs.

This site aims to respond to an imperative need: to list, structure and share information on ETP programs in Île-de-France. It is an interactive mapping tool and a collaborative platform, accessible to two main audiences: healthcare professionals, allowing them to direct patients towards suitable ETP programs, and those responsible for health programs. ETPs which can view all of the programs using descriptive sheets.

CART’EP is a key resource for the region, supporting the structuring of ETP. Technological changes, changes in user needs and the need to integrate new functionalities led to the decision to develop a new version of the site in 2024, still with LEPS and the Agency, but also with the Resource Center ETP Île-de-France and Coordination 95, under the project management of GIP SESAN.

According to the definition of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1996, “therapeutic patient education aims to help patients acquire or maintain the skills they need to best manage their life with a chronic illness” . It is available in several ways, including ETP programs which are declared and validated by the Île-de-France Regional Health Agency.
