The famous annual list of Rolling Stone was revealed, but it does not do justice to Metal this year. Only one album of the genre appears there: From Hell I RiseKerry King’s debut solo album, which ranked at number 93.

Kerry King saves the honor of metal

Former Slayer guitarist Kerry King released his debut solo album in May 2024 From Hell I Rise. This highly anticipated project includes collaborations with musicians from Slayer, Death Angel, Machine Head and Hellyeah. Despite the anticipation surrounding its release, the album was somewhat overshadowed by the surprise announcement of Slayer’s live return, revealed shortly before its release.

Rolling Stone described the album as “le ‘Still D.R.E.’ du Thrash Metal“, adding: “Kerry King reminds his fans that he remains Satan’s ambassador-in-chief. This album sometimes sounds like Slayer at their best.”

A ranking dominated by pop and country

The top 3 of the list reflect the dominant trends of the year:

  • 01. Charli XCX – Brat
  • 02. Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter
  • 03. MJ Lenderman – Manning Fireworks

Despite a year full of quality metal releases, several notable albums were snubbed by the rankings.
