No Maes in December in Paris. The rapper, convicted in June for acts of violence in meetings, decided to cancel his concert scheduled for December 19 at the Accor Arena in Paris. This concert, which is sold out, had already been postponed in February.
The 29-year-old artist, who resides in Dubai “for the sun” according to his lawyer, Me Diane de Condé, had hoped for a sentence modification under an electronic bracelet to be able to fulfill his commitments. But in a letter that West France was able to obtain, his lawyer told him that, upon his arrival on national territory, “police officers will be responsible for notifying you of your arrest warrant, subsequently involving its execution as part of the execution of your sentence in a remand prison.”
Maes, whose real name is Walid Georgey, was sentenced in June to ten months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of €10,000 by the Paris Criminal Court. The rapper's entourage confirmed to West France the cancellation of the Paris concert as well as another date planned for December 7 at the Swiss festival The Beat, in Lausanne.
He recognized the punches
In September 2018, shortly before midnight, Maes, accompanied by a group of friends, attacked a man leaving a recording studio in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The victim, who was returning home, was punched in the face resulting in total incapacity for work (ITT) for six days. The rapper, who admitted to having thrown two punches, subsequently compensated his victim, who withdrew her complaint. The prosecution nevertheless decided to continue the procedure.
Originally from the Beaudottes district in Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis), Maes has nearly 2 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, 1.6 million subscribers on his Instagram account. In 2020, his album The last bastards had been the best-selling French rap album ahead of Ninho and Jul. Maes was previously sentenced to a year in prison in 2015 for a drug trafficking case.
