Seventeen was back at UNESCO headquarters. On Wednesday June 26, the K-Pop group was expected for an official ceremony which would see it officially become a goodwill ambassador to UNESCO. A major first for the institution which found in the superstar group the necessary voice to address young people. A recognition for Seventeen which, since its beginnings in 2015, has always strived to support and highlight youth through its music and its speeches.

A red carpet was rolled out in the gardens to welcome Seventeen (usually stylized in capitals). The thirteen artists, superb in black costumes, made their entrance before taking their seats in the stands, under a blazing sun. Shouts rang out for several minutes from the gates of the institution where fans had gathered, hoping to get a glimpse of the open-air ceremony. Tens of thousands of others followed him on a live broadcast.

Seventeen was back for the second time within the Parisian building. Last November, the group took place in the auditorium for a special session organized on the sidelines of the Youth Forum. Seungkwan, Jun, Woozi, Mingyu, Joshua and Vernon gave inspiring speeches recalling their personal journeys before everyone performed some key songs from their repertoire.

“An unforgettable experience,” Joshua recalled during the ceremony. This time, the singer alone was responsible for speaking. “Looking back, we see that it was a long journey, one step after another, until we were able to stand before you as a youth ambassador.”

“Since our beginnings, our music has been about our own experiences and authentic emotions. Over the past nine years, at different stages of our youth, we have engaged with people who love our music, or as we call them, CARATs,” he assured.

Never let anyone, including yourself, bring down your dream

“Thanks to their love, we have built a strong bond and a sense of belonging with young people around the world. Each of our members gradually felt invested with the duty to speak on behalf of young people and encourage them to pursue their dreams. It is with this growing sense of duty that we began making donations to children’s organizations in 2017.” A tradition that the group continues every May 26, its birthday.

“Every single dream you have is important,” insisted the 28-year-old artist. “Never let anyone, including yourself, belittle your dream,” he added before supporting his remarks with regard to the history of his group.

Seventeen’s perseverance

“We didn’t take the fast track to success as a K-Pop group,” he recalled, “But one thing we agree on is that the strong camaraderie we have We have built along the way, has been the key. »

“There were also difficult times, where we sang together to bury our sorrow, struggling to get through it and become heroes to ourselves. » “We were able to overcome difficulties with gratitude only because we had a supportive community that helped us build our dreams together. In this supportive community we built with our comrades, we not only shared countless uplifting moments, but we also supported each other through life’s greatest sorrows, including loss of loved ones. dear,” he confided.

The next step

The collaboration was sealed by the presentation of a diploma by the Director General of UNESCO to the leader, S.Coups. Joshua then detailed on behalf of the group the next steps in their new mission. Wanting to highlight the notions of “camaraderie” and solidarity, Seventeen plans to donate one million dollars (more than 935 million euros) to finance their campaign with UNESCO.

“Know that you are not alone. You are part of us and your dreams are also those of SEVENTEEN,” added Joshua. “Today I speak on behalf of the group, but I want to assure you that we all share the same vision.” And to conclude: “For your dreams, SEVENTEEN will be at your side”.

In the meantime, Seventeen will continue to make history by pursuing its own dreams. Friday June 28, the group is expected on the legendary “Pyramid Stage” of the Glastonbury festival in England. And if this is the first time that a K-Pop group has been offered the opportunity, there is no doubt that the challenge has been placed in very good hands.
