Netflix

Number 1: The Bridgertons Chronicles

Penelope Featherington finally gave up on her long-time love for Colin Bridgerton after hearing him make derogatory comments about her. She has, however, decided that it is time for her to take a husband, preferably one who will give her enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, away from her mother and sisters.

Spectator rating: 3.8/5

According to Christine D (5/5)

Recommended if you want to have a good moment of romanticism from another age, without really taking the hassle. A good moment of relaxation for sure!

According to Virginia (4/5)

The most interesting season of the three. However, the relationship between Colin and Penelope is treated far too fleetingly and could have fueled many more episodes. I found some moments touching and the music is very beautiful as always. I find that the actress who plays Penelope plays extremely well… and I also give four stars for the fact that finally, an atypical couple is highlighted in this type of series. The only downside is that the ending is botched for my taste and deserved to be largely developed…

According to Flower 0478 (5/5)

For my part, it’s season 3 that I preferred with season 1, it’s dedicated to my favorite who is Pénélope. I love her character, she is pretty, there is perfect chemistry between her and Colin, very beautiful romance. I finished the season quickly and I highly recommend it.

Why does it work?

As soon as it returns with part 2 of the third season, Bridgerton unsurprisingly rises to the top of the top series. The romance between Penelope and Colin was able to conquer the public, by changing certain stereotypes and representing a beautiful love story which first began as a story of friendship.

Number 2: Ni una más

At 17, Alma is almost done with high school. She has known her friends Greta and Nata since childhood with whom she shares everything, from outings to the troubles typical of their age: the feeling of exclusion, jealousy, problems with parents and even toxic relationships. But when the profile @Iam_colemanmiller publishes a photo on social networks with the caption: “That was me before I was raped”, nothing seems normal and everything changes. How and when did this attack occur? Who is behind this profile? Is this allegation true and if so, who is the victim?

Spectator rating: 3.9/5

According to lison tharreau (5/5):

“An incredible, touching series to watch! It deals with important subjects to bear in mind. Scenes on feminist movements, sexual touching, drugs, the period of adolescence which is not always easy and sexual assault. In short, it’s a series that moved me, and I highly recommend it. It can still really impact us, stir our minds!

According to noa.lfv14 (5/5):

A very moving series, the acting is incredible. This series shares a poignant and very impactful message

According to Moh Dziri (3.5/5):

“A nice surprise, this mini series, a very well-written story carried by excellent actors, you might believe at first that it is a series for teenagers but that is not the case at all.”

Why does it work?

Three weeks after its release on Netflix, Ni una más is still in the top views of the platform. Subscribers were shaken but won over by the intrigue of the Spanish series which, like 13 Reasons Why, tackles current issues of sexist and sexual assault and violence committed against women. Its important and necessary subject, its careful writing and its casting of young talents like Clara Galle (Through My Window) and Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara from the film Against the Sense are the reasons for this new Hispanic success on the streaming service.

Number 3: Sweet Tooth

Gus and his friends embark on a harrowing expedition in the hopes of finding a cure for the Blight…and finally discovering the truth about hybrids.

Spectator rating: 3.9/5

According to Archie62 (2.5/5)

Final season for this original series. The characters are very well developed. A little too much for my taste. The storyline holds up but there are a lot of unnecessary or drawn-out scenes which annoyed me sometimes. I didn’t really like the twists and turns that were predictable well in advance, but I liked the last minutes of the last episode which ended very well.

According to Gygh tgyuh (5/5)

The series is incredible, it talks about our world right now. Of all the things that are wrong, I 100% recommend this series as a couple, with family or alone

According to Cyrille Sabine (5/5)

A strong series from start to finish, and the 3 seasons are great, I rewatched both before the third, I never tire of it. The characters are well presented and catchy, the adventures are captivating, and the ending is really well shot.

Why does it work?

With its fantastic universe, Sweet Tooth immediately found its audience. It is true that the story of Gus, this half-boy, half-deer hybrid in a world that is literally collapsing, has something to question the public.

Number 4: Eric

New York, 1980s. After the disappearance of Edgar, his nine-year-old son, on the way to school, Vincent embarks on a desperate search. Considered one of the best puppeteers in the Big Apple, creator of a very popular children’s show, Vincent tries to cope with the absence of his son, but consumed by grief, he gradually loses his footing.

Disgusted with himself and overwhelmed by guilt, he clings to Eric, a puppet drawn by Edgar, convinced that he can bring this blue monster character to the screen when his son returns. As Vincent’s increasingly destructive behavior alienates him from his family, his colleagues, and the investigators who try to help him, Eric, an illusion born of necessity, becomes his only ally in his quest to find his son.

Spectator rating: 3.7/5

According to Romain C (5/5):

It’s simply sublime. The character of the father is so different from the usual clichés. A short series to devour. The messages conveyed by this series are approached with subtlety and show the role of each person in change. Well done !

According to Just Me (4/5):

There is good, even very good, and not so good, in this series. The very good one is Benedict Cumberbatch who excels in his role. The other actors are also very good, even if I found the child a little too impassive. The good is also the subject and the period in which it is located. The character of Eric. The end.

The bad thing is the passages are a bit long, sluggish. The desire to want to talk about many (too many) things too. Fatherhood and the difficulties of being a good father. The world of work. Racism, homophobia. Human trafficking. Poverty, begging… and so on. It’s a bit much and I got a bit lost sometimes.

According to dragoyo (3.5/5):

This series is very easy to watch but it’s quite disconcerting because what we’re watching is ultimately quite far from what we think we’re watching after reading the pitch and launching the first episode. Everything starts with a disappearance and we think we are in a classic police investigation in a specific universe then the story develops and the outcome is perhaps a little too easy. The whole is good but the overall tension is seesawing sometimes creating some lengths.

Why does it work?

It’s been several years since British actor Benedict Cumberbatch appeared on the small screen. Driven by the popularity of its main star, the Eric series seems to find its audience on Netflix. It must be said that the plot moves away from the usual detective codes to immerse the spectators in a complex universe, at the crossroads of genres, between realism and fantasy.

Number 5: Geek Girl

Netflix

As an awkward teenager, Harriet always wanted to fit in. But a London modeling agency spots her and she will learn that sometimes, we are made to stand out from the crowd.

Spectator rating: 3.3 out of 5

According to Mail Duble7 (5/5):

“A simple series but one that feels good. Some of the topics covered leave you thinking! Refreshing characters with whom it is easy to identify. A nice mix of humor and sensitivity. Ready for season 2 (if there is )!!!”

According to Amandine Acca (4.5/5):

“I loved this series! The story, the characters, everything is very good. I can’t wait to see the sequel.”

According to AlloZiggy (3.5/5):

“I’m a little ashamed, it’s very teenage and too light in the topics covered, full of easy or clumsy stereotypes, but the English charm and this young actress and her little extra thing that catches me means that I watched with pleasure.”

Why does it work?

A series for teenagers to be placed on the side of pleasant surprises, Geek Girl has attracted many Netflix subscribers for its humorous tone – which has not prevented the series from tackling more serious subjects around the theme of adolescence. The main role of the program was also entrusted to the young actress Emily Carey, one of the revelations of the first season of House of the Dragon!
