A new album by Marie Laforêt is released this Friday, five years after the singer's death. His daughter Déborah tells the story behind the scenes on BFMTV.

Titles unpublished for 44 years. Five years after the death of Marie Laforêt, a new album by the singer is released this Friday. Fire, recorded in 1980, and made up of 11 pieces, has had an incredible history.

At the time, Marie Laforêt opposed its release. This album, very different from his previous ones, was very pop, less folk. She was also at a turning point in her life and had been forced to make choices, underlines her daughter Déborah Kahn-Sriber on BFMTV:

“She wanted something different. She was also in the middle of writing a book. She wanted to change her life, to settle in Switzerland. But also to start a career as a gallery owner and auctioneer” , she reveals.

“The album was perhaps not released because she had to make a choice between her life as a writer and her life as a singer,” slips the artist’s daughter. After the singer's refusal to release the record, it disappeared.

The bands disappear

The tapes, which belonged to a Swiss film producer, had disappeared in a burglary. The police found them in a garbage bag, abandoned in the street. The producer was then able to recover his tapes, which were then lost again.

They were found thanks to the determination of a fan, Yoann Masson, who knew Marie Laforêt. For Déborah Kahn-Sriber, who was unaware of the existence of this album, hearing her mother again was overwhelming.

“Hearing his voice, which returns, with new words, new music, new sensations, it's quite magical. It's moving. It's (…) exceptional to hear (…) someone 'one we haven't seen for a long time and who we miss.'

“May this music live”

With this album, Déborah Kahn-Sriber intends to introduce Marie Laforêt to a new generation of listeners. “I want this music to live,” she insists. “I think it’s a shame that it’s disappearing.”

“Today, there are fewer and fewer people who know her,” she admits. “She was such an exceptional woman that she needs to be known! I want people to know that she exists, that she existed and that she did wonderful things.”

Déborah Kahn-Sriber is also preparing a remix of My love, my friendMarie Laforêt's most listened to song on the Spotify platform.
