this moving memory of his mother hidden in his new album

As in the heyday of “Nouvelle Star”, Julien Doré is tackling the perilous exercise of covering his new album “Imposteur”, to be released on November 8. A name and qualifier taken from a real review of the newspaper The Parisian published the day before the semi-final of the show on M6! “ I have great respect for these memories, for the show. I never, even when I started writing and composing my songs, wanted to say “Oh but it’s behind me, I don’t want to talk about it anymore”. That’s probably also why the album is there. It’s a way to remember where I come from » confided last night on the set of “Quotidien” the singer and actor in the series “Panda”, which here takes up “Pourvu qu’elles sont éclairs” from Mylène Farmer or “All the women in your life” by L5 (whom he invited for the clip!). Sharing the mic with Francis Cabrel or Sharon Stone throughout the record, Julien Doré also revisits “Les yeux de la mama” by Kendji Girac, a highly symbolic choice because the musician lost his mother in May 2022, when he had just become the father of his first child a year earlier. “ The world no longer looks quite the same without his mother. Without it, almost everything dies, fades, melts » he wrote at the time, bruised by grief.

“I may have lost my voice”

To honor the memory of his mother Raymonde in the most beautiful way, Julien Doré set out in search of a trace of her voice, which he wanted to integrate into his song. A ” special story “… which almost did not succeed, because the artist had great difficulty in carrying out this task. “ I go to my phone and search the voicemail for my mother’s voice. And I realize that I can’t find it. Like any son who is a little too sure of himself, we delete the somewhat anecdotal messages from his mother. I can’t listen to his voice » he told TMC viewers, disconcerted when he realized that he had “ maybe lost his voice » : « There is a chasm. In addition, it turns out that as time passes, someone’s voice fades a little from memory. “. Fortunately, after searching for this buried treasure for a long time, Julien Doré finally got his hands on a voice message from his mother: “ Really, it takes time and I decide to put it on the intro of my cover. I tell myself at that moment, as a son, not as an artist, that I have fixed something, that is to say that there, I will not be able to erase this voice, it is fixed somewhere ».

This approach was all the more important in Julien Doré’s eyes as his 3-year-old son will one day be able to discover this song. “ Maybe in a few years, when my son listens to this song, he will think it’s mine. But he will also hear his grandmother’s voice » he added, very moved, while images from a documentary centered on the recording of the album showed him and his son dancing and having fun while his version was broadcast “Mama’s Eyes” in the background. The artist also sent his cover to Kendji Girac, out of respect. The latter’s reaction? “ I promise you it gives me chills, it really touched me. He made it his own and I think what he did is really very strong. » he revealed on M Radio.
