The last 12 months have been very complicated for Salvatore Adamo. As he prepared to celebrate his 80th birthday on stage with his audience, the singer canceled numerous concerts due to his state of health. Suffering from pulmonary edema, the singer of “Tombe la neige” took longer than expected to get back on his feet and repeatedly postponed his return to the stage. However, the public was there to applaud him during his Parisian visits to the Grand Rex last June, then to the Olympia on October 1st. But how is Salvatore Adamo really doing? “ Knock on wood, but everything is fine » he smiles in the columns of Parisian : « I regained my breath and my energy. The pulmonary edema disappeared thanks to diuretic treatments. I’ve done six concerts, including the Grand Rex, and it’s okay. I try to slow down as best I can, but it’s not in my character. It has always been a total gift, to be worthy of this privilege that I have to still be able to sing in front of an audience and do what I love ».

“I am more and more anxious”

If he had to shorten his concerts somewhat for health reasons (“ There’s a coalition standing against me » he quips), the singer wants to make it known that he is on the right track. The proof is that he is currently preparing his new album, which will include between 16 and 18 songs. in very different styles ». « It will perhaps be called “Des medlars et des currants”, from the title of a new social song that I really like. » he specifies. Will this be his last album? It is ” possible » : « Each album is a big investment and an anxiety that affects my health “. So, if he says he has many ideas that spring up and more than 11,000 notes in his phone, Salvatore Adamo reveals that he is “ more and more anxious » : « It’s the idea of going out with dignity, of leaving something that I’m really happy with. I try to give the best of the moment and I have the fear of making one album too many, of falling into pathos, also on stage ».

For this new project, Salvatore Adamo surrounded himself with numerous artists including Axelle Red, with whom he shares the duet “Entre toi et moi”. He also worked with Nilda Fernandez, who died in 2019, on another album in Spanish from which he adapted the texts of old songs. The Belgian musician also hopes to share the microphone with Sheila whom he met in the ICP studios in Brussels, while she was recording her new album: “ We promised to do a duet together. With our backgrounds, it would be logical, right? ».
