MSFF 2024: Marrakech positions itself as an international cinema hub

The fourth edition of the Marrakech Short Film Festival (MSFF) closed successfully, consolidating its status on the international scene after six days of screenings and lively discussions.

Chaired by actress Mayssa Maghrebi, this edition allowed fruitful exchanges between Moroccan directors and their counterparts from Poland and Germany, with the aim of promoting international collaborations and strengthening the visibility of Moroccan cinema abroad. New partnerships will soon be announced to continue this momentum.

Among the big news of this edition, the festival awarded international prizes in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Doha Film Foundation, the Berlin Arab Film Festival and the Munka Foundation in Poland. These distinctions, awarded to Moroccan films, aim to stimulate cultural exchanges and promote local works on new international platforms. In addition, a partnership with Mayssa Maghrebi’s production company in Dubai was sealed to support the production of Moroccan films as part of the festival, thus strengthening cinematic cooperation between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.

The winners of this edition were rewarded for their creativity and talent. Anas Zamati won the Best Film award for The Scarecrow, while the Best Director award went to Dhiya Bia for What Grows on the Palm of Your Hand. Best Actress went to Aya Jebran for her role in The Scarecrow. Other awards, such as the “Dakka Qalb” award for the Iranian film Suffocation by Pedram Mehrkhah, and distinctions from the Doha Film Foundation and the Arab Film Festival in Berlin, demonstrate the growing internationalization of the event.
