Miley Cyrus accused of plagiarizing Bruno Mars song

Did Miley Cyrus take inspiration from a Bruno Mars song for her 2023 hit “Flowers”? According to Tempo Music Investments, there’s no doubt about it. The company accuses the singer of plagiarizing the song “When I Was Your Man,” which the singer released in 2012.

“It is undeniable, given the combination and the number of similarities between the two recordings, that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,'” the complaint filed Monday, September 16, 2024 in Los Angeles reads, reports “Entertainment Weekly.”

Miley, the co-writers of “Flowers”Sony Music and Apple are therefore being sued. The company is not only demanding damages but also the cessation of distribution of the hit and the ban on the star performing it. Bruno Mars, for his part, is not directly involved in this legal case. Tempo Music Investments owns the rights to the catalogue of Philip Lawrence, co-author of “When I Was Your Man”. This is the reason why it is suing the 32-year-old American.

It is worth noting that the title “Flowers”, whose lyrics allude to her breakup with her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, allowed Miley to win a Grammy Award in 2023.
