Spielberg’s worst film, really?

It’s difficult to mention recent entertainment cinema without mentioning the great Steven Spielberg. Since the release of Jaws in 1975, the American director has continued to work hard to create some of the most significant feature films of recent decades. From the saga Indiana Jones has Jurassic Park through more dramatic works like Schindler’s List or We must save Private Ryanwithout forgetting his recent experiences with Ready Player One, West Side Story et The Fabelmansdifficult to find the slightest failure in the filmography of this legend of Western cinema. Yet, if we are to believe the reviews gathered on Rotten Tomatoesthere is indeed one of his films which did not really convince the press.

With a very low score of 29%, the film Hook is indeed the lowest rated film in Steven Spielberg’s entire filmography. Information that will surely shock more than one, especially when we compare this score with that of the spectators. Indeed, Hook has still convinced many more people than the press could have imagined at the time of its release, since it currently has a rating of 76% according to the public. Better yet, unlike many other films in Spielberg’s filmography, Hook is today considered a true classic by many fans who grew up with it. Moreover, the year of its release, it even managed to win no less than 5 oscars. Proof if any were needed that sometimes, the criticisms are completely off the mark.

Hook is free on TF1+ for a limited period!

If you have already seen Hook or the Revenge of Captain Hook in the past, you know for a fact what a great film this is. Originally released in 1991, the fantasy feature film is a sort of reinterpretation of JM Barrie’s Peter Pan in which the famous character finally grew up and left Neverland. He then married Moira, Wendy’s granddaughter, with whom he had two children. Little by little, he completely forgot Neverland and became a completely rational lawyer. But while he was believed dead by everyone in Neverland, Captain Hook ends up resurfacing and begins kidnapping children again, which forces Tinker Bell to try to convince Peter to regain his memory.

Between its storyline, its characters, the themes explored and the phenomenal casting embodied among others by Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman et Julia Robertssuffice to say that Hook is a real gem not to be missed. Almost 35 years after its initial release, it is still as pleasant to watch and discover, by the youngest as by those who have been young for a long time. If you haven’t seen it yet or if you want to dive back into Neverland, know that Hook or the Revenge of Captain Hook is available for free on the TF1+ platform. The application does not reveal when Steven Spielberg’s film will be available, so we advise you to act quickly.
