After Civil War, first poster for Warfare, new film by Alex Garland, before the trailer

The A24 studio has posted the first poster of WarfareAlex Garland’s new war film, and teased the arrival of a trailer.

After having established itself on the cinematographic landscape with SF films Ex Machina et Annihilationthen with the horror film MenAlex Garland changed course with Civil Wara political thriller with dystopian overtones. When it was released, the film was widely criticized for many reasons (sometimes contradictory) and Alex Garland did not hesitate to step up to respond to the criticisms of Civil War.

He also explained that it would be his last film as a director… at least as a solo director. Indeed, Alex Garland, who took care of the script for the highly anticipated 28 years laterco-directed another war film alongside Ray Mendoza: Warfare. The A24 studio unveiled the first poster of Warfare. The trailer, for its part, is announced for December 16, 2024.

Modern Warfare

The first poster of Warfare shows a face covered in dust and dirt, with goggles obscuring the individual’s eyes. The slogan « Everything is based on memory » (It’s all about memory) suggests that the film could be a reflection on the invisible scars left by armed conflict, particularly psychological trauma.

It must be said that the film will be largely inspired by the experience lived by Ray Mendoza. The co-director and co-writer of the film is in fact a former Navy SEAL. He participated in the war in Iraq, joined the army for 16 years as a soldier and then served as an instructor training young recruits in combat techniques. If we still know little about the precise plot of Warfare, we suspect that the film will not be half-measured, especially given its casting.

People in a hurry

Warfare will indeed count in its ranks D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Charles Melton (May, December), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), Will Poulter, Kit Connor (Rocketman), Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun), a Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country). At the moment, the film does not have a specific release date, apart from a vague 2025, but perhaps it will be revealed when its trailer is released.
