The story is told from the perspective of Mary, one of the most important biblical figures, and the epic story that led to the birth of Jesus. Chosen to give birth to the Messiah, she is nevertheless rejected following the miraculous conception and forced to hide. King Herod orders a murderous hunt for his newborn, but Mary and Joseph will do everything to save their child's life and therefore decide to flee. In The Telegraphthe criticism is harsh: “Netflix's Bible biopic is the worst film of the year”headlines the media which evokes a particularly film “confused“.
Marie : the media judges the film very harshly
“The film is a big bad choice”we can still read. “Noa Cohen, the heroine, has no chance of grace or dignity in her role, and barely any sympathy”denounces the journalist of The Telegraph. “With a poorly crafted script by Timothy Michael Hayes and several additions to the biblical narrative that detract more than elevate the plot, the cast is given no opportunity to impress or show an inspiring new vision of the trajectory of Mary”adds the journalist from Collider. On the site IMDbthe film barely obtains 5.4/10 while on the American review aggregator Rotten TomatoesInternet users give it barely 47% positive opinions. “If Hollywood really wants to make a movie about the mother of Jesus, it should at least stick to the factual story recorded in the Gospels”regrets one of them. “I was disappointed from the start and I only lasted 30 minutes”writes another. “I had high hopes for this film.
