The Substance (2024) tells the story of Elisabeth Sparkle, an actress whose star has faded. In Hollywood, fame burns like a wildfire: intense, but fleeting, before slowly fading away. At 50, Elisabeth is sidelined, ousted from her aerobics show. It is then that she discovers la Substancean elixir sold on the black market, promising to revive one's youth. But this serum has an effect that is as fascinating as it is disturbing: it literally sprouts a younger, more radiant version of itself.
From this transformation is born Sue, a double who is both sublime and disturbing. Played by the magnetic Margaret Qualley, Sue quickly becomes the new darling of the public, eclipsing Elisabeth and leaving in her wake a cruel fable about the price of eternal youth.
Released on November 6 in French cinemas, the film directed by Coralie Fargeat will be released in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in early 2025. The Substance (2024) is the result of filming carried out using different RED and Arri Alexa Mini LF digital cameras. The master was finalized in 4K.
This release is starting to become clearer with the opening of pre-orders in France. This edition will be supervised by Metropolitan. Release currently set for April 30.
