Horror trailer for comic-inspired film The Crooked Man

The first trailer for the film Hellboy: The Crooked Man by Brian Taylor immerses us completely in the register of horror.

The first two films Hellboy directed by Guillermo del Toro rather won over the critics and the public, but we absolutely cannot say the same thing about Neil Marshall’s reboot. Released in 2019, Hellboy was not only a box office flop (grossing only $44 million on a budget of $50 million), it was also panned by the press, audiences and of course fans of Mike Mignola’s comics.

We were therefore quite surprised that another reboot (they can’t help it) was announced in February 2023. And precisely, the rather worrying first trailer for this new feature film entitled Hellboy : The Crooked Man has just been unveiled, and It’s rather surprising.

Hellboy and the Crooked Man

Del Toro’s feature films already contained fantastic-horror elements, but here we can say that This trailer really gives us the impression of a horror movie.. Between the satanic rituals, the heavy soundscape and the close-ups on the faces distorted by terror, we’re really into it, and honestly, it’s pretty cool.

This new film Hellboy will adapt the events of the eleventh album of the comic seriesnamed The Crooked Man (The Crooked Man in original version). More specifically, it will focus on a mission bringing the half-demon and a young recruit from the BPRD (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense) to the Appalachian mountain range. There, Hellboy will find himself confronted by the Crooked Man, an evil entity linked to his past.

Better… a little better…

Hellboy is directed by Brian Taylor (Hyper Tension 1 et 2, Ghost Rider 2) and will be worn by Jack Kesy (Deadpool 2, Baywatch – Baywatch), who thus takes up the torch after Ron Perlman and David Harbour. Another important piece of information is that the screenplay includes Christopher Golden (who had already worked on the 2019 film) and, above all, Mike Mignola, the creator of the comic book series.

While there may be concerns about the project (and with good reason), it is reassuring to know that the father ofHellboy is in the game. We are also quite intrigued by its horror film aspect in the world of comics, transforming the figure of the Twisted Man into a real antagonist from the world of terror. It will be interesting to see how the main character will be used in this light.he who has always had a reputation as a badass and fearless demon slayer. No release date has yet been revealed..
