With Avengers : Secret WarsMarvel is entering a decisive turning point for the MCU, with the confirmed arrival of the X-Men in cinemas.
As if to make us forget the poor phases 4 and 5, which never managed to recover from the cataclysm of the end ofAvengers : Endgamestatements regarding Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe follow one another at a rapid pace. Since the announcement of the return of the Russo brothers at the helm ofAvengers 5 et 6and the revelation that Robert Downey Jr. will return to Marvel as the big bad, the news keeps coming.
The movie Fantastic Four: First Steps revealed its official synopsis, we learned that Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringswill realize Spider-Man 4and that Bladeeven if he is in trouble, will come out one day (perhaps) to close phase 6.
If we already knew that Avengers 5 : Doomsday et Avengers 6 : Secret Wars were going to be the choice pieces of the last act of the Multiverse saga, Kevin Feige, gray eminence of Marvel, has just announced that Secret Wars would make history, by inducting the X-Men as heroes fully integrated into the MCU.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
As reported DeadlineKevin Feige made a virtual appearance at the opening ceremony of the Disney APAC Showcase in Singapore. During a necessarily exalted speech, the boss of Marvel spoke of the next productions of his team, including the Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts* et Avengers : Secret Wars. Regarding the latter, Feige assured that this film would definitively confirm the entry of the X-Men into the MCU:
“I think you'll see that continue in our upcoming films with X-Men actors you may recognize. Right after, the story of Secret Wars will bring us into a new era for mutants and the X-Men. Once again, [c’est] one of those dreams that come true. The X-Men are finally back. »
In his speech, Kevin Feige actually confirms two things: first of all, that characters from the X-Men will appear in the next MCU films, with “X-Men actors” identifiable. We're betting a coin on the very bankable Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman, and James “Prof. X” McAvoy, or on the unexpected return of Halle “Tornado” Berry.
Then, the Marvel boss claimed that Secret Wars will be a historic turning point for the X-Men, with an entry through the front door into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gold, Avengers : Secret Wars will not be released in theaters until 2027. Which leaves more than two years for the MCU to sow the seeds leading to the appearance of the Marvel Studios version of the X-Men (and no longer those from Fox), which has already been slightly teased in the post-credits scene of The Marvels.
En route verse Avengers vs X-Men?
The integration of the X-Men team into the MCU has been a fantasy in the minds of fans since the acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. Between messy rights issues and timeline imbroglios, this assimilation has been made official at the cinema by Deadpool & Wolverinewhich was both a testament to Fox's superhero universe, and the inauguration of the possibility for these heroes to join the Marvel Studios stable for good.
The 1 million euro question remains: what will the MCU be able to do with the X-Men? Secret Warsif it follows the storylines of the eponymous comics at all, should be the scene of Dantesque clashes between heroes on the Battleworld world/universe, with a story of the Multiverse which collapses on itself (which would be undoubtedly the best way out of the Multiverse saga).
Beyond this horizon, there is only speculation, but it is a safe bet that phase 7 is heading towards an event inspired by the saga Avengers vs X-Men, which had allowed the comics to bring back the character of Phoenix, and to offer beautiful regressive fights between superheroes.
The release date ofAvengers : Doomsday is scheduled for April 29, 2026 in French cinemas. As for Avengers : Secret Warsits release is scheduled for May 5, 2027.
