Why is the film with Pierre Niney coming out on a Friday?

The new blockbuster starring Pierre Niney is exceptionally released on a Friday and not a Wednesday, as is customary in France. A strategy imagined by its producer.

The new adaptation of the Count of Monte Cristo comes to theaters this Friday, June 28. An exceptional date: in France, films are traditionally released on Wednesday, unlike in the United States, where feature films are released on Friday.

A change of date imagined to make this adventure fresco carried by Pierre Niney – the biggest French production of the year, with a budget of around forty million euros – the event film of the summer.

This release comes two days before the launch of the Cinema Festival, and its 5-euro screenings throughout France, from Sunday June 30 to Wednesday July 3. Enough to give a great boost to Count of Monte-Cristo.

“Summer opportunity”

A summer date also considered more auspicious than that initially planned, December 11, as producer Dimitri Rassam explained to the newspaper PointA release at the end of the year would have created a traffic jam with American blockbusters.

“Due to the writers’ strike, the release of Mufasa’s Kingdomthe prequel to Roi lionhas moved from summer to December 18. Which would have created a bottleneck,” said Dimitri Rassam.

“So we had to take advantage of this summer opportunity,” he continued. “With a shoot of the Count of Monte Cristo completed at the end of November 2023 and editing that was taking place on time, we could perfectly envisage releasing it quickly.”

Victim of a conspiracy

The summer blockbuster, signed Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, the director duo of First nameis inspired by the famous novel by Alexandre Dumas. They also wrote the adaptation of the Three Musketeers released last year.

Victim of a conspiracy, Edmond Dantès is arrested for a crime he did not commit. Imprisoned for 14 years in the dungeons of the Château d’If, he manages to escape. Having become immensely rich thanks to the secret of the Abbé Faria, he returns under the identity of the Count of Monte-Cristo to take revenge on the three men who betrayed him.

Pierre Niney gives the answer to Bastien Bouillon (The night of the 12th), Anaïs Demoustier, Laurent LafitteAnamaria Vartolomei (The Event), Patrick Mille (The three Musketeers) and Vassili Schneider (The Almond Trees).
