Released at the end of October, Clint Eastwood’s latest film is struggling to rise to the top of the box office despite the filmmaker’s popularity. A failure which undoubtedly has nothing to do with the quality of the feature film.

One last film that flops

Released in theaters on October 30, Juror No. 2, the new film by Clint Eastwood, is not really able to find its audience. After more than two weeks of operation, the film would have grossed around ten million dollars, for a budget estimated at 35 million dollars. A failure for the 94-year-old filmmaker who could also offer his final feature film here. However, the fault does not lie with Eastwood, nor with the quality of the film, which was very well received by the press and the public. The problem would rather come from Warner Bros. and the distribution strategy adopted.

A strategy called into question

To tell the truth, the problem encountered by Juror No. 2 certainly comes from the strategy adopted by Warner Bros., which decided to offer the film in only fifty cinemas in the United States, as reported First et Variety last month. For comparison, Cry Macho, the filmmaker’s previous film, was released on 3,967 copies. The same goes for the promotion, which is more than discreet. Warner Bros. would therefore not have believed in Juror No. 2 and would have decided to reserve a limited theatrical release for it to ensure its eligibility for the Oscars and to grant “a gesture of gratitude to Eastwood” who remained faithful to the studio for decades, before offer it in streaming on Max soon. A very sad observation for a cinema legend.
