Stephen King obviously appreciated the new Netflix phenomenon film which comes straight from France. The famous author particularly praised the last part of the feature film which he found “incredible”.

Stephen King validates a French film

Like Hideo Kojima, Stephen King is one of those legendary authors who loves to share his latest cultural recommendations with his audience. The author of Shining, Carrie and It recently spoke about the latest Netflix phenomenon film: Sous la Seine, the feature film featuring a shark stuck in the Parisian river. And a priori, this new French genre project convinced the author who found the last minutes “incredible”, even though he was expecting to watch a chick.

I thought Under the Seine would be a crazy movie, like Sharknado, but Twitter convinced me to watch it and it’s really good. The last 25 minutes were incredible.

A resounding success

Stephen King is obviously not the only spectator to have been convinced by Xavier Gens’ feature film. Number one in the top 10 programs in France on Netflix, the film also holds this place internationally and has accumulated more than 70 million hours of viewing for more than 40 million views. Impressive figures, which place it in a very good position to soon enter the top 10 most viewed foreign films on the platform. A performance as unexpected as it is delightful for this French film which nevertheless received poor reviews. On AlloCiné, Sous la Seine received a press rating of 2/5 and an audience rating of 1.7/5. More than mixed opinions, which English-speaking spectators do not completely share. The success of the film would therefore be mainly due to its international exploitation, further proof that Netflix knows how to satisfy its audience.
