Beware of smiles… A first teaser for “Smile 2”, the sequel to the hit 2022 horror film, has just been revealed. Prepare for the worst!
In 2022, director Parker Finn unveiled his horror film Smile. First intended for the streaming market, the film was finally released in theaters after excellent feedback from test screenings. The feature film starring Sosie Bacon, Jessie T. Usher and Kyle Gallner was a success and collected $217 million at the international box office for a budget of $17 million.
Smile follows Rose, a psychiatrist whose life turns into a nightmare after witnessing a traumatic incident involving one of her patients. Overwhelmed by a mysterious force, Rose will have to confront her past to try to survive. Given its success, a sequel was quickly announced.
Still directed by director Parker Finn, Smile 2 is led by Kyle Gallnerwho reprises her role, Naomi Scott (Aladdin, Charlie’s Angels), Lukas Gage (Euphoria, The White Lotus) and Rosemarie DeWitt.
If until now we knew little about the story of the feature film, a first enigmatic teaser now allows us to learn more about this sequel which expands the universe of Smile.
Premonitory song lyrics…
We discover in these first images that Naomi Scott plays pop star Skye Riley. The latter is about to go on stage in front of a crowd of delirious fans… If the singer is affected by the curse of the demonic smile, she could therefore contaminate thousands of people with a smile.
And the lyrics of the song heard in the teaser (visible at the top of the article) already predict disaster: “There could be a tragedy, a disaster right in front of me. Am I a future catastrophe waiting to happen, like blood on white satin?
The sea parts my way. I’m holding a glass in my hand, it might break. Something so physical. A catastrophe waiting to happen, like blood on white satin.”
The viral promotion of the film is launched!
Paramount, which produced and distributed the film, has already created a X account for the fictional singer and shares photos and videos of the pop star. We can also see a photo on which Naomi Scott sketches the famous smile…
The promotion of this film, announced in our theaters on October 16, 2024, is therefore already underway. For the record, the first part had already caused a lot of buzz thanks to an offbeat promotional campaign.
During a baseball match in the United States, actors placed in line with the cameras stood up and stared at the cameras with wide, frightening smiles. These images quickly created a buzz and probably contributed to the success of the film.
Note that this will be the second suspense thriller of the year whose action takes place during a concert after Trap by M. Night Shyamalan scheduled to hit our theaters on August 7.
