According to the media Deadline, the Skywalker saga, supposed to be finished with episode 9 of the films Star Warscould resume with a new trilogy.
We thought we would never hear of the Skywalkers again in Star Warssince the broadcast of film number 9 — entitled Rise of Skywalker. But the most famous family in this universe could actually return through the front door. In any case, this is what Deadline claims in an article published on November 7, 2024, in which we learn that Disney has entrusted Simon Kinberg with the responsibility of developing a new trilogy.
« I understood that these would be episodes 10 to 12 of the Skywalker saga which began with George Lucas' first film, in 1977 “, indicates journalist Mike Fleming Jr.. Other sources indicate that it would rather be a 100% new project, which would be added to the other films currently in preparation (such as the one centered on Rey). Which appears both more plausible and more reasonable.
Do we really want to see the Skywalkers again in Star Wars ?
Some fans may jump to the ceiling seeing this option take shape, even if Disney and Lucasfilm have not confirmed anything at all. Returning to the Skywalkers seems strange when we know the disastrous fates of Luke, Leia and Kylo Ren in the last trilogy. A priori, there remains no known Skywalker member at the end of the ninth canonical film, but we know the ability of the screenwriters to invent sleight of hand to resurrect important characters – or invent hidden descendants for us (a son or a daughter for Kylo Ren?).
A new trilogy on the Skywalkers would also be strange compared to the project centered on Rey – who is the headliner of episodes 7, 8 and 9. She is supposed to form a new Jedi Order in her own history, which would then coexist with a another trilogy? Unless, of course, Simon Kinberg opts for a huge leap into the future. Or, hopefully, actually go for something else entirely.
In any case, Simon Kinberg has the CV to take on a franchise like Star Wars, although, as a screenwriter, not everything was a success. We owe him in particular poor blockbusters like X-Men: The Last Standthe reboot Fantastic Four (that of 2015) or even X-Men: Dark Phoenix. He is more comfortable in a producer's costume, for example with the trilogy Deadpool or the spin-off Logan. Note that he has already worked on Star Warswith the co-creation of the series Star Wars Rebels or as a consultant on The Force Awakensalongside JJ Abrams.
