You can see the beginning of the horror film Smile 2, but you’ll have to smile

Paramount Pictures found a clever way to promote Smile 2. The first seven minutes are available online, but you have to smile in front of your screen to enjoy it.

You haven’t seen the horror movie yet Smile 2 ? Maybe the first seven minutes will make you want to go to the movies. Paramount Pictures has actually posted the introduction to the film directed by Parker Finn online. But there is a twist, as noted by Variety in an article published on November 4.

Accessible by clicking on this link after having entered your date of birth (do not lie if you are too young), the introduction of Smile 2 asks you to smile constantly in front of your screen. What happens if you no longer show your teeth? The video stops abruptly, and it will only restart if you start smiling again. In terms of lore, it’s very clever.

Smile if you want to see the first 7 minutes of Smile 2

This initiative from Paramount Pictures obviously requires that your PC be equipped with a webcam (this also works on smartphones and tablets, thanks to the selfie camera located on the front). And you also have to put your effort into it, since you have to smile for many seconds for the sequence to continue to be played. Good point: it doesn’t go back to zero if you get a cramp.

The developers even thought of integrating a preview of what the camera is filming, with a square that lights up green when everything is good. Tip: It’s better to smile while showing your teeth, since the algorithm will have a harder time capturing a simple smile with your lips. The experience is truly gripping, with instant cuts and replays based on the movements of your mouth. Note that you can cheat by showing a photo of someone smiling at the camera, but the goal is still to see how long you can last with a very forced smile.

We recall that Smile et Smile 2 revolve their promotion around people who have such a fixed smile that they cause discomfort. It’s very smart of Paramount Pictures to take this principle and apply it to viewers, with increased immersion compared to a simple trailer.
