In recent weeks, French cinema has been on the rise. “Un p’tit truc en plus”, released in 2024, has already become the biggest French success of the last ten years. Positive reviews of French releases continue to pour in, particularly for the films “L'amour ouf” and “Monte-Cristo”.
“L'Amour ouf” and “Monsieur Aznavour”, after “Monte-Cristo” and “Un p'tit truc en plus”: French successes continued to boost cinema attendance in October, on the verge of erasing the hole in air of the beginning of the year due to the strike in Hollywood.
With 15.53 million spectators, this is the best month of October since the Covid-19 pandemic, up 10.8% year-on-year, according to figures published by the National Cinema Center (CNC) Monday. Over the first ten months of 2024, cinemas sold 143.21 million tickets (-3.2% year-on-year), with the poor performance at the start of the year continuing to be erased. The share of French films is very high over this period, representing more than 45% of admissions.
Released on October 16, “L’Amour ouf” by Gilles Lellouche, with François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos, is the biggest success of the month with more than three million admissions. “Monsieur Aznavour” with Tahar Rahim in the title role (released October 23, nearly 1 million admissions) is fourth in the monthly Top 5. The biggest success of the year remains “A little thing in addition”, the comedy phenomenon by Artus on mental disability, with 10.7 million admissions since its release in May, ahead of “The Count of Monte -Cristo” and its 9.2 million entries.
