Nothing goes right between J.K. Rowling and his compatriot David Tennant. Indeed, after comparing the Scottish actor to a “taliban“, the Edinburgh writer does it again.
Harry Potter: the rag burns between JK Rowling and David Tennant
We almost forget it, but there was a time not so long ago when JK Rowling was the high priestess of popular culture. Long praised for her philanthropy, the mother of Harry Potter is no longer in the odor of holiness. Her numerous statements against transgender and transsexual people have made her an extremely controversial figure, so much so that she has received criticism from members of the cast of the films Harry Potterincluding Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Miriam Margolyes. She also explained in April 2024 that she will never forgive the actors and actresses who attacked her for her political opinions.
It would also seem that JK Rowling reserves some of her anger for actor David Tennant. Often considered one of the greatest British actors, he is particularly known for playing the Doctor in Doctor Whobut also in the series Broadchurch et Good Omensbased on the novel Good omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. He also played the role of Barty Crouch Jr., the Death Eater responsible for the return of Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
In June 2024, after David Tennant asked British-Nigerian Conservative Minister Kemi Badenoch to “to be silent” following his plan to ban transgender and transsexual people from using women’s toilets -, JK Rowling called the actor “gender taliban“. She did it again this weekend, following the appointment of Kemi Badenoch as leader of the British Conservative Party in the Westminster Parliament, becoming the first black woman at the head of one of the main British political parties. Sharing the conservative party publication, the author of Harry Potter commented: “My thoughts and prayers are with David Tennant at this difficult time.”

For now, the actor who promotes the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare in which he plays, did not respond to JK Rowling. Either way, it seems that nothing can reconcile them.
