Without a sound – Day 1 already breaks a (innocuous) record for the horror saga

Even before its release, Without a sound: day 1 has already set a historic (but innocuous) record for the horror sci-fi saga.

In addition to having been big financial successes (almost 341 million and 298 million dollars in revenue), Without a soundAnd Without a sound 2 by John Krasinski also received positive feedback from critics, praising in particular the innovative concept, some very solid staging ideas and the performance of the cast, including lead actress Emily Blunt. After such a triumph, it was quite logical that new sequels would arrive (Krasinski has even already planned a Without a sound 3) and that’s why the announcement of a spin-off entitled Without a sound: day 1 didn’t surprise anyone.

Since the chaotic trailer for Without a sound: day 1we impatiently await the return of the horror franchise and we inevitably wonder if this opus directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig) will live up to the first two. One thing is sure, the film has already broken a (admittedly innocuous) record for the saga.

And on the first day, God created…

Without a sound and a longer first day

Indeed, we now know that Without a sound: day 1 will be the longest film in the saga, with a duration of 1h40. As a reminder, the first two feature films lasted 1h30 and 1h37 respectively. The story of this new episode will plunge us into the heart of an enraged New York attacked by a horde of aliens. We will notably find the character of Djimon Hounsou taken from Without a sound 2while the other cast members (Lupita Nyong’o, Eliane Umuhire, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Denis O’Hare) will make their debut in the franchise.

Without a sound: day 1 will thus seek to approach Krasinski’s horrific universe in a quite different way. If its big brothers generally set up an intimate atmosphere and a fairly oppressive atmosphere, it would seem that the newcomer wants to move away from it to offer something more spectacular. Another record: the budgets of the first two films were approximately $17 million and $50 million, respectively, while that Without a sound: day 1 could exceed 100 million according to actor Alex Wolff.

Don’t worry kitty, everything will obviously go very well…

It remains to be seen whether the quality of Michael Sarnoski’s film will match its length. It will also be interesting to discover what Sarnoski will do with John Krasinski’s universe (please don’t spoil it, it’s one of the rare horror franchises that still holds up!). In any case, we won’t have to wait too long. Quietly: Day One due to arrive in our French cinemas on June 26, 2024.
