An intense trailer for the remake of this cult hitman thriller starring Bruce Willis

Eddie Redmayne is a cold killer in this series remake of this cult film starring Bruce Willis, with a very brutal trailer to boot.

There are films that don’t get buried easily. Without talking about masterpieces or cult films, many works have the right to their remake. This was recently the case of Speak No Evil that the director of the original hated and soon Amazon will make the French remake of an American film when Netflix will make the American remake of a French “super-woke” film. Yes, it’s really nonsense.

And in this endless list of sometimes questionable Hollywood remakes, a cult film with Bruce Willis and Richard Gere will now be included: The Jackal. Already at the time, it was itself a remake of the eponymous film by Fred Zinnemann adapted from a successful French novel. The Jackal followed the hunt led by the FBI to incapacitate a hitman hired to liquidate an important politician. So, the remake series The Day of the Jackal will she repeat the same story? You just have to see the trailer to get an idea.

The trailer is gripping with its raw and uncompromising violence. We clearly feel the series’ desire to want to compete with the original while changing certain aspects of the plot such as removing the familiar terrorist character of the Jackal, played by Richard Gere. The first images seem to favor the summit duel between a British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) and the Jackal (Eddie Redmayne), both launched in a cat and mouse race across Europe.

However, after viewing this trailer, this choice to focus solely on the antagonism of the characters seems to be to the detriment of the political background of Michael Caton-Jones’ film, which embellished its footage with some archive images of the Kennedy assassination. Will the series be a political thriller or a simple stalking and spy film? At this point, the series could just as easily reveal an unsuspected political statement.

The creator who wonders if it’s a good idea to talk politics in his series

The series was created by Ronan Bennett, one of the series’ writers Shōgun. Eddie Redmayne (A wonderful story of time), Lashana Lynch and Ursula Corbero (Tokyo in The Money Heist) are starring in the series directed by Brian Kirk. Apart from that, we are very curious to know what the series has in store for us given the scenes of tension and action that the trailer reveals and if this will be enough to mask the simplicity of its starting point.

As a reminder, The Day of the Jackal will be available on Peacock on November 7, 2024 in the United States. In , the series does not currently have a broadcaster.
