1. The Golden Fleece of the adventure film : One with the Whale

Ct’s the slap in the face of the festival and it shakes us from the confines of Alaska to the seats of the Olympia cinema in . And even if there are no mountains on the horizon of the Inuit people filmed by Pete Chelkowski and Jim Wickens, this film is a remarkable documentary on the tensions between tradition and modernity of the indigenous (or “native”) peoples of the arctic regions. If you had Paul Watson at the top of your pantheon of environmental activists, you might be uncomfortable with the story of this kid who becomes an adult after hunting his first whale. Through this age-old tradition, today governed by a quota of two whales per year, the young man feeds his village for a good month. This led to him receiving thousands of insults and death threats, led by a certain Mr. Watson. Disturbing.

To see in particular on Thursday October 17, 2024, at the Grand Bivouac festival in Albertville.
