New films and series to watch on Netflix from October 4 to 10, 2024

Every week, Netflix adds films and series to its catalog, but it’s not always easy to navigate. Écran Large is here to help you: here are the new features added by Netflix from October 4 to 10, 2024, films and series combined, in a non-exhaustive list.

What are the films and series not to be missed this week on the streaming platform?

Platform 2

  • Already available
  • Duration: 1h40

What is it about? When a mysterious leader imposes his law with a brutal system of vertical cells, a newcomer rebels against questionable food distribution.

Why should you watch it? This is the continuation of the phenomenon The Platform which was a hit on the red N during confinement (and given the situation, it’s quite understandable)… or rather its prequel. Indeed, we should not expect that the terrible prison will be overtaken by the rebellions of the prisoners here since the events take place before those of the first part. However, it is the perfect way for filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, back at the helm, to densify the universe.

So, Platform 2 pushes the knobs a little far in terms of the social dimension and also the gore. More than a simple psychological torture, the platform (the place) becomes a real object of physical torture used by the kidnappers themselves, in a way even more violent than the authorities behind this otherworldly prison could have imagined. ‘imagine. If you liked the first opus, it’s hard to miss it.

indoor game

  • Already available
  • Duration: 1h44

What is it about? Their old friend Forves promises them a new board game. First it’s funny, then it gets creepy. As the night descends into chaos, no one is safe.

Why should you watch it? Were you a little tired of Escape Room movies? No luck, Inner game directed by Greg Jardin follows roughly the same line as the behind-closed-doors concepts that have abounded in cinema and on the small screen for years. On the other hand, for those who are fond of it, it is blessed bread.

Inner game is in fact having fun with his body-swapping machine to make an impossible mess during the bachelor party of a groom-to-be. Between the sleeping around, lies, betrayals and possibly worse (we won’t reveal anything here), it’s a little Machiavellian game which is setting up and could become a real little headache for some spectators. The whole thing is a little too timid to fully seduce and lacks consistency, but just for the fun concept alone, it’s worth a look.

The Predator

  • Available October 8
  • Duration: 1h47
A film that deserves better

What is it about? A soldier, who had the misfortune of encountering a Predator and surviving, must join forces with traumatized soldiers to save his son, sought by the alien race.

Why should you watch it? When it was released, The Predator was generally poorly received, the fault of Fox’s serious butchery being felt. Some crude narrative twists make one cringe, and the overall production is regularly up and down. But that’s forgetting that the film still has Shane Black at the helm, a brilliant screenwriter and director (L’Arme fatale, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Guys) who had a role in the first Predator.

With his characteristic humor, it makes this episode a rather stupid sequelbut also very consistent with McTiernan’s masterpiece. When Schwarzenegger discovered the face of the monster, it reflected the soldier who faced the horror of war materialized. The Predator focuses on a band of misfits traumatized by their military past, expendable meat by the army. Their presence gives Shane Black’s dialogues this f**k you attitude frankly enjoyable, which saves the film from its wanderings. Let’s give this unloved opus another chance.

annabelle 3

  • Available October 9
  • Duration: 1h46
She is behind you but in short

What is it about? The doll from hell is locked up at the Warrens’ house, but she doesn’t intend to keep her guard up. In the absence of the couple of demonologists, she will torment their daughter, Judy, whose babysitter is not very effective.

Why should you watch it? Third film dedicated to the evil doll within the Conjuringverse, Annabelle: House of Evil is the first feature film directed by Gary Dauberman, but yet another horror production by James Wan. The franchise within the franchise had, for its first film, explored the setbacks of a couple finding themselves in possession of the doll while extending from the beginning the preamble of the first Conjuring. The second film, The Creation of Evilhad, unsurprisingly, recounted the origins of this dirty porcelain girl.

The third film therefore decides to change the formula and keep the Warren couple apart for most of the film (this is not a bad thing). It is their daughter, played by the excellent Mckenna Gracewho finds himself having to face the forces of evil. This Annabelle 3 therefore turns into a slightly (much) crazy teenage movie, which is above all excuse to explore all the cursed objects that are piled up in the Warrens’ forbidden basement. Who hasn’t dreamed of it since the first film in the saga, honestly? A big mess, always crude and always very Catholic, but overflowing with good ideas.

tomb raider: the legend of lara croft

  • Available October 10
  • Length: 8 episodes

What is it about? Adventures of the famous Lara Croft, who will surely save the world but without killing too many people and animals (since in recent games she has calmed down).

Why should you watch it? In the cinema, Lara Croft has already had several lives. First with the features of Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft : Tomb Raider (2001) and its sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life (2003), then with Alicia Vikander in Tomb Raider (2018), the sequel to which was canceled when MGM studio lost the rights. But the famous adventurer is now entitled to an animated serieswhile a live-action series is in preparation at Amazon.

The Netflix series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is directly linked to games. The story unfolds after the reboot trilogy (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider), and should bridge the gap with the first games of the 90s. Hence the presence of Jonah and Zip, to connect everything.

How ? For what ? Big question for fans of Tomb Raiderwhile a new game is in development. In any case, the series headed by Tasha Huo has one asset: the excellent Hayley Atwell, who lends her voice to Lara Croft.

BUT ALSO…

The Menendez Brothers, Major Five, Love Deceived, Yo Mama, Monster High 2, At the Crossroads of Worlds: The Golden Compass, The Son-in-Law of My Life, Outer Banks season 4…
