Furiosa sets a record and confirms that it won’t be for everyone

Worshipers of George Miller and his post-apocalyptic universe are counting the days until the release of Furiosa. Nearly ten years after the acclaimed Fury Road, the visionary will look into the fate of the character formerly played by Charlize Theron. In front of his camera, it’s Anya Taylor-Joy who will play the member of the Vuvalini tribe facing Chris Hemsworth. Years before his meeting with Max, the narration will tell of his vengeful quest in a world in decline. Torn from her native land, an oasis in the middle of the desert, she will try to survive the Desolation and relentlessly tracking down those who deprived him of his loved ones. Revenge is now his only reason for being. The film – which is to be presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival – is one of the cinematic events of the year. The first images demonstrated an emphasis on grand spectacle and an aesthetic close to Fury Road.

If we still have to wait a few more weeks to find out if this new proposal has won over spectators, new information has just been shared. According to the Motion Picture Association classification spotted by BloodyDisgusting, Furiosa will not be in lace. Unsurprisingly, the film will be prohibited for unaccompanied minors. It’s an old tradition for the license, which has only gotten PG-13 once in its history. Except Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdomeall received the famous R-Rated. Furiosa is no exception. It is — according to the official document — made up of “sequences of intense violence and disturbing images”. Nothing very surprising for a film in which survival and confrontations are at the heart of the narrative process. Note that an R-Rated classification does not mean that the film will also be prohibited for those under 18 in France. In France, the visa is used less. For exemple, Dead Pool had only obtained a warning for spectators under 12 years old.

A more astonishing record

The appointment is in all cases made for the May 22 in French cinemas. A few days before this release, the Cannes public will be able to enjoy it at the Grand Théâtre Lumière at the Palais des Festivals. This world premiere will take place on Wednesday, May 15.
