The suspense is at its peak… the wait is likely to be long. More than a year after the release of Spider-Man Across the Spider-Versefans of the web-slinger are still waiting for the sequel to hit theaters. While it was originally scheduled for March 2024, the strike by actors and writers and a report regarding allegedly difficult working conditions have pushed back this deadline. Sony has postponed this release, without specifying which new window had been chosen.

A new report suggests that viewers will have to be patient, and twice rather than once. According to Jeff Sneider, who is not always right, Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse may not hit theaters until 2026 or 2027. According to him, much of the work done so far has simply been abandoned. Sneider mentions “creative reasons” and theorizes a connection to the development of Spider-Man 4.

We learned yesterday that Daniel Destin Cretton was in discussions with Marvel to take over the fourth installment of the adventures of Peter Parker. While Marvel and Sony have not yet made the project official, Deadline claims that it is indeed in the pipeline. Billionaire with Far From Home, the saga would thus have become the studio’s priority againleaving Miles Morales waiting… As a reminder, five years already separated the first and second films of the animated saga. The first part nevertheless offered a real conclusion to the story, while the second and third parts are closely linked.

Don’t believe everything you read on the internet

While Sony Pictures has yet to comment on the allegations, two creatives have taken to social media to share their feelings about the rumor. This is the case of Daniel Pemberton, composer of the original music. On X, he says he does not “wanting to give your opinion on this sort of thing, but did you think that there might sometimes be things on the internet that aren’t particularly accurate? Hmmm”. While the composer still cultivates mystery, screenwriter Chris Miller has been more direct. He has also taken to his social networks to clarify things. He explains:

“Nothing has been deleted. Things are progressing well.”

The screenwriter has not communicated on the release date, however, viewers will have to be content with this brief update. Production is in full swing, suggesting a release in 2025? Nothing is official and we know little about this sequel. As a reminder, the second part of the saga ended with the beginning of a fight against the multiverse for Miles. Helped by his friends, the teenager will do everything to save his father from a death that is presented to him as inevitable. Gwen left the Spider-Society and brought back a mysterious character with her. While the first two actors of Peter Parker were shown via live-action sequences, Tom Holland’s had been carefully avoided. It didn’t take much more for the rumor of an appearance of the character in the third part to swell.

Although we will have to wait a little longer to find out for sure, spectators are already assured of being able to see Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson and Hailee Steinfeld in the roles of Miles Morales, Peter B. Parker and Gwen Stacy. Oscar Isaac should also be on the trip, the narrative not having finished with its Spider-Man 2099.
