Of all the upcoming Marvel movies, Blade is probably one of the most “desired” ones. So where does this case stand?

With all the twists and turns, the Arlesienne of the new film Blade of the MCU has become almost comical. Even if it must be a little less so for its lead actor, Mahershala Ali, who must not see the end of it. At the time of its announcement in 2019, Marvel was still at its peak (we were then just after the triumph ofEndgame) and promised the world to its audience with the arrival of new characters. And that of the charismatic vampire killer had something to excite.

But tragically Blade has become symptomatic of a progressive chaos in the MCU’s schedules. What was supposed to be a simple introductory film for the vigilante has turned out to be a production headache. There are countless filming dates constantly pushed back and writers and directors leaving. But hey… the ship hasn’t sunk yet and it has to arrive at the dock. So Blade will happen. The question is when.

Possible release date, story, casting… find out everything you need to know about the upcoming film Blade.

WILL THERE BE A NEW BLADE MOVIE?

The movie Blade of the MCU has been announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con. So yes, in theory, Blade is well planned. Even if it has been a while since it was announced.

To briefly recall the situation, the (very) numerous production delays are linked to several twists of fate, including the Covid-19 pandemicet the writers’ strike d’Hollywood in 2023.

Furthermore, between 2021 and 2023, the authors took turns on the scenario of Blade (Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Nic Pizzolatto, Michael Starrbury and Michael Green) which led to numerous rewrites in addition to delaying filming, which was at one point scheduled for summer 2022, then May 2023. As of this writing, the studio is on its sixth screenwriter: Eric Pearson (also attached to upcoming The Fantastic Four et Thunderbolts).

Marvel also has lost its director twiceFirst Bassam Tariq, in 2022, then the Frenchman Yann Demange in June 2024. Kevin Feige’s not-so-well-oiled machine therefore seems to be going off the rails a little.

However, while it was on sale for the last Deadpool & Wolverine chez BlackTree TVKevin Feige explained that the endless wait for Blade was not so bad after all. However, this kind of Arlesienne for a blockbuster is rarely a good sign (we remember what it gave with The Flash or Uncharted) but here everything would apparently be under controlAccording to the producer, everything has been put in place so that the film can be developed calmly and patiently:

« I mean, for the last two years, when we were trying to make this movie, the most important thing for us was to not rush it and make sure that‘we were doing the good movie Blade.«

In the meantime, we were still able to have the return of another Blade

WHAT IS THE RELEASE DATE FOR BLADE?

At present, Blade is planned in France for November 5, 2025a few months later The Fantastic Fourbut things could (should?) still be moving. As Kevin Feige half-admitted, production is moving at a slow pace, and with everything that has happened and is still happening behind the scenes, it’s hard to believe that everything will unblock in the coming months. Without director(s) or director(s), and without a defined plot, It’s hard to imagine that filming can start soon. to start up.

WHAT WILL BLADE BE ABOUT?

Encore no official synopsis has been revealed pour Bladewhich should be part of Phase 6 of the MCU. And it’s all the more complicated since the script has been rewritten quite a few times. We know, however, that after the departure of the trio Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green, it is now Eric Pearson (Thor : Ragnarok, Black Widow) who is in charge of writing the film, according to TheWrap.

In the comics (and its film adaptations of 1998, 2002 and 2004), Blade is an atypical Marvel character. Far from being a classic superhero, he faces vampires in a very bloody way way and its adventures deal with mature and violent themes. For these reasons, we would like to expect a slightly darker storyline than what the MCU usually offers.

And this is good timing, because Kevin Feige has confirmed to BlackTree TV in July 2024, that Blade will be classified R (prohibited to those under 17).

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE BLADE CAST?

Except Mahershala Ali in the title rolealone Delroy Lindo et Mia Goth were announced in November 2021 and April 2023, respectively. Unfortunately, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed last June that Delroy Lindo had finally left the ship, as had the pilot Aaron Pierre (Foe, Brother) who confirmed in March 2024 that he was no longer involved in the project at all.

Several rumors have also circulated, starting with the choice of Antony Starr (aka the Protector in The Boys) to play the antagonist, although nothing is founded (or even very credible).

WHERE WILL BLADE BE BROADCAST?

If things don’t turn sour permanently, there’s a very good chance that Blade be broadcast exclusively in cinemas.
