It is better not to tease Emerse Faé too much. While a journalist questioned his coaching and tactical choices after Côte d’Ivoire’s victory on Friday against Zambia (2-0), as part of the qualifications for the CAN 2025, the Elephants coach did not lose heart and answered him in his own way at a press conference. “Get your coaching diploma and then you will take my place,” he told him, provoking laughter from the audience. “Oh really? Thanks for the lesson!”, replied the reporter.

A double from Krasso

Propelled to the bench after the resignation of Jean-Louis Gasset, while the Ivorian selection was on the verge of elimination during the last African Cup of Nations, Faé managed to lead his team to a third title in the competition. An incredible epic and a meteoric rise for the young 40-year-old technician, trained in Nantes and notably spent time with Nice during his playing career.

It was a double from Jean-Philippe Krasso, the new Paris FC striker, which allowed the Ivorians to dominate Zambia to start this qualifying campaign for the next CAN which will take place in Morocco from December 25, 2025 to January 18, 2026. In the other matches, Egypt notably dominated Cape Verde (3-0), while Senegal was held by Burkina Faso (1-1).
