Fabio Quartararo finished tenth in the Barcelona Solidarity Grand Prix sprint. The Frenchman held the top-9 positions for a long time before being dispossessed in the final laps, always limited by the performance of his machine.
The qualification: “We had already done two time attacks in Q1 so we know where the limit is. In the first run of Q2 I was stuck with Bastianini, and the last run, the team took too long to change the rear tire, I left alone so I lost a little in the aspi, the others improved… We are 'only' half a second away but we lack speed and grip. »
Tenth in the sprint after fighting in the points: “It wasn’t bad, we fought well. We remained close to Bezzecchi, Binder, Marquez, Morbidelli. I felt like I had something more, especially towards the end, but there's only so much you can do. We are lacking a lot of grip and speed. »
Effective management: “I think I have improved enormously, especially in the last three races, on managing the rear during the sprint, to try not to go beyond the capabilities of the tire. It's more electronics, the way to exit corners, not to open too much and go from 0 to 100 too quickly, manage as much as possible. But even if you do it well, you have to push the tire more than the others and it's a bit of a hassle. »
The same kind of race on Sunday? “Yes, the last one of the year! We're going to try to do well and then stop thinking about the bike for a few months, it'll be good. »
