MotoGP Malaysia J1, Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati/12): “Andrea Iannone is already making better starts than me”

Sad first day for Marco Bezzecchi in Malaysia. This season seems endless for the Italian who was so flamboyant in 2023; he never seems to get his head above water since the start of this exercise, where he was frequently downgraded by his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio. “Diggia” is no longer there, okay, and even if Andrea Iannone naturally cannot compete, Bezzecchi did not stand out during the Practice with a 12th place. He will have to go through Q1, naturally, and that is a big problem in this extremely competitive era.

Marco Bezzecchi, who had nevertheless been quite good at Sepang in 2022, cannot do it. Nothing is improving on his side of the box.
« Compared to tests, we are on another planet. I'm still having trouble on this track. I have a lot of problems. The characteristics are similar to those of winter tests, but when I put on the new tires, I can't turn the bike, especially in turns no. 5 and no. 6. In No. 11 too, it’s difficult” he confided to GPOne microphones at the end of the day.

Obviously, the prospects for this Grand Prix are unattractive. “I will first try to get into Q2, then I will see what I do at that moment” he added. It's still sad, and the worst thing is that it's not won. He will have to face big clients such as Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta, not forgetting Aleix Espargaro.

Asked about his makeshift teammate, Bezzecchi only said good things about him. Andrea Iannone learns quickly, very quickly.
« He didn't know the hole shot device, but he's already getting a better start than me. We didn't see each other much in the box, but we talked after the sessions. Andrea is a nice and cool guy. » he concluded.
