Club Brugge steps up pressure on Hayen

Club Brugge travels to Patro Eisden this Tuesday evening (8:45 p.m.) in the Croky Cup round of 16, a Challenger Pro League team coached by a former well-known figure, Stijn Stijnen. This season, the Blauw en Zwart have achieved fairly irregular results, and according to The Latest Newsmanagement puts a lot of pressure on coach Nicky Hayen.

A ten-year wait for a trophy

In the last three seasons, Club Brugge has been eliminated in the semi-finals of the Cup. It has been almost ten years since the Blauw en Zwart won this trophy, and the last double championship-cup victory dates back to 1996. This season, the Club is aiming for a twelfth Cup title with determination.

The pressure is building

Management has been clear about the ambitions this season. “Internally, everyone agrees that missteps like the one at Beerschot (2-2) must belong to the past. The Club cannot afford to suffer any setbacks this week in their quest for ten matches without defeat. ‘Victory after victory after victory’,” it is reported.

Club Brugge wants to go through without a hitch against a Belgian D2 team like Patro Eisden, in order to build confidence before the crucial meetings to come. A victory against KV Mechelen in the league would take the Club to ten consecutive matches without defeat, which would reinforce a positive dynamic after the disappointment at Beerschot.

Shocks to come

Club Brugge aspires to be in great shape for the big matches in the Champions League and the championship. Sporting Lisbon (10/12), KRC Genk (15/12), and Union Saint-Gilloise (22/12) are on the calendar. Some players will have the opportunity to shine this Tuesday evening in Maasmechelen, notably Ferran Jutglà and Skov Olsen, who are looking for a reference match.
